Back in the mid 1800s, some of my CARRICK, HIGGINS and KELLY ancestors lived in the town of Tuam in County Galway.
My great-grandmother, Catherine HIGGINS, left Tuam some time before she married Thomas CARRICK on 19 November 1859 at the Church of St Philip and St James, Chapel St, Edgeley in the District of Stockport, in the Counties of Cheshire and Lancaster, England. Before they left England to migrate to Australia, they had at least five children who travelled with them to Australia. All except James were with them when they travelled to Australia in 1880.
They later migrated to Australia in 1880 on the ship, La Hogue. The family left Plymouth on 30 July 1880 on an 85 day journey to Sydney. They arrived in Sydney on 23 October 1880.
When the family lived in Tuam, some of them lived somewhere in Tullinadaly Road, which is quite close to the centre of Tuam and the Catholic Church, the Cathedral of the Assumption in Bishop St, Tuam, Co. Galway, Ireland. The church was built between 1827 and 1836. Because this is the closest Catholic Church to Tullinadaly Road in Tuam, I think this is probably where the family attended Mass.

On Saturday 19 July 2014, I visited Tullinadaly Road in Tuam. Although I don't know where the family lived on this road, it wasn't a very long road so at least I know I am in the right area.
